Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. Many people unfamiliar with the word tend to think there is a separate island to the west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often referenced, however her brief time in the city did not last long. Brugel was a young woman living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become a dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew every dance partner she was able to have. A Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. Once I was bigger than any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. For Brugel, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher in high school who pushed her to take the step she needed. The teacher suggested she try to find a role in school's annual production. It was her choice to take on the lead character in Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on small and big screens, attracting the greatest media attention after she was offered the character as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
